Giovani Lo Celso, Christian Eriksen and Tanguy Ndombele to start in new-look midfield? How Tottenham and Sheffield United could line up

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Sheffield United to north London on Saturday as they look to build momentum from their impressive Champions League victory in Serbia.

Heung-Min Son bounced back from his weekend devastation as he bagged two goals in Tottenham’s impressive 4-0 Champions League win at Red Star Belgrade.

Son was visibly distraught after his tackle led to a horrific injury to Everton’s Andre Gomes on Sunday and he was a doubt to make the trip to Serbia as a result.

Son was visibly distraught after his tackle led to a horrific injury to Everton’s Andre Gomes on Sunday and he was a doubt to make the trip to Serbia as a result.

But he put it all behind him in Belgrade with a double in four second-half minutes to take his tally to nine Champions League goals in 2019 and five in four games this season.

The South Korea international had his red card at Goodison Park rescinded and is expected to start at home against the Blades, but could be joined by Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine was instrumental in the Serbian capital and is an example of the embarrassment of riches Pochettino has at his disposal in comparison to his opposite number on Saturday.

The parallels between the two teams are relatively similar; Pochettino took Spurs from struggling to qualify to the Europa League to the Champions League and Wilder took Sheffield United from League One to the Premier League.

Wilder’s side may hold a three-point advantage heading into the match, but the boyhood Blades fan is realistic about where the true balance of power probably lies when comparing his resources to those of the Argentine.

“Sometimes things happen and people don’t start in the fashion they’d have wanted to, but scratch beneath the surface and what you’ve got is one of the world’s top managers coaching an unbelievable group of players,” he said.

“I’ve always had a lot of admiration for what Tottenham have done and the work they do on the training ground. Whatever system they play they have an identity but they mix it up – three centre-halves, diamond, all kinds of different systems.

“Whatever they do they have world class individuals and one result will get them up and running. They can’t fail with the amount of quality they’ve got.

“But it’s also another great afternoon for us to pit our wits against top-class individuals. We’ll be fearless in our approach.”

Team News

Spurs are still without first choice keeper Hugo Lloris for the visit of the Blades, although the World Cup winner has since had surgery on his dislocated elbow.

Jan Vertonghen is set to return after the international break after picking up a knock, while Erik Lamela is considered a doubt with a thigh problem.

Sheffield United could well be without defender John Egan after he was forced off in the win against Burnley with a knock, but he will undergo a fitness test prior to the clash in the capital.

Aside from that, Wilder has a fully fit squad to choose from.
