Jurgen Klopp has admitted he may have considered signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic had he not played for bitter rivals Manchester United.

In just 53 MLS games, the striker scored 52 goals and recorded 17 assists and the former Sweden international revealed on social media last month he would be returning to Europe.

Ibrahimovic moved to California in March 2018 after spending two seasons at Old Trafford following his Paris Saint-Germain exit.

And had the striker not had a stint at United, Klopp admitted he may have been keen to sign him for free.

When asked about the 38-year-old, Klopp told Sportbladet via TribalFootball: “If he had not played for Manchester United before, then we might have considered him.

“No, but I’m not even sure he wanted to play here. We’re a pretty intense team,” Klopp laughed.

“With that said, I couldn’t have had more respect for Zlatan. I love his whole career, love his efforts, love his confidence.

“While it may not always be right, it is entertaining anyway. He’s a fantastic character and I really hope he doesn’t stop playing football.

“The world will miss him too much.”
