Mauricio Pochettino is RIGHT man for Tottenham says Arsenal hero Ray Parlour, who also doubts Jose Mourinho moving to Spurs

Jose Mourinho is unlikely to take charge of Tottenham says Ray Parlour, who also believes Mauricio Pochettino is the right man for the job.

Pochettino, the Argentine, is under real pressure in north London with Spurs all the way down in 14th having won only three of their 12 Premier League matches to date.

The Lilywhites have been struggling for consistency all year, and only their run to the Champions League final masked issues which have been present since the start of 2019.

Saturday’s draw with Sheffield United cast more doubt on Pochettino’s future, and the latest reports claim a defeat at West Ham when domestic football returns after the international break could cost the 47-year-old his job.

But Spurs need to stick with Pochettino and back him more to return them to the path of success, Arsenal hero Parlour believes.

Speaking on Wednesday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Pochettino said: “It’s amazing to get to the Champions League final and then they just haven’t pushed on in the league – I don’t really know what’s happening.

“It doesn’t help when players are running their contracts down, and I’m sure the dressing room area is a little bit split.

“It’s amazing to see Spurs are 14th with the squad and players they’ve got.

“I think [Pochettino] needs to be backed a little bit more. He knows he is going to lose a few players and they need to reinvest.

“He has got them into a great situation getting into the Champions League most seasons, but getting in it this season looks very unlikely.

“The board have to back him – they are going to lose three key players.

“I do [think he is the right man]. Who else would you go for!”

The likes of Massimiliano Allegri and Jose Mourinho have been linked with succeeding Pochettino in the White Hart Lane dugout, but Parlour cannot accept the appointment of Mourinho as a possibility.

“Mourinho, wherever he’s gone, has always had a lot of money to spend,” the Romford Pele continued.

“Have Spurs got the money to spend? Because they haven’t given it to Pochettino and you’d think they would give it to him first.”
